Research offers vaccine chance to younger people in Rochdale Date published: 29 April 2021 The NCA’s Director of Research, Professor Phil Kalra Researchers are inviting local residents who have not yet been vaccinated to get involved in an important Covid-19 vaccine study that could add another effective option to the UK’s coronavirus protection. While people aged over 50 and health and social care staff have already been invited for their vaccines, many people in the community are yet to be given a date for their jabs. This includes many people in public-facing work roles. The study led by experts at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) offers the chance to be given a vaccine between 13 and 16 May at Oldham Leisure Centre, followed by a second dose four weeks later. The Northern Care Alliance incorporates the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and provides hospital and community healthcare services in Oldha ....

More than 10,000 local people have been involved in Covid-19 research Date published: 21 February 2021 The NCA’s Director of Research, Professor Phil Kalra More than 10,000 patients, volunteers and NHS staff have taken part in crucial Covid-19 research at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA). Most of the 10,000 people involved are taking part in studies in hospital – including Rochdale Infirmary, Salford Royal, The Royal Oldham, Fairfield General in Bury and North Manchester General – but nearly 600 healthy volunteers are involved in vaccine and antibody studies in the community. The NCA’s Director of Research, Professor Phil Kalra, said: “We very much appreciate the support of our patients and their families and our volunteers at such a difficult time and want to thank them for the help they are giving to health staff and scientists who are treating Covid-19 patients and trying to protect our communities. ....
