Many of us are jonesin to get out of town, for obvious reasons. But perhaps we re not in a position to do something overly expensive or dramatic right now. Thankfully, there are plenty of wonderful places to which we can travel right here in Texas.
San Antonio, and that entire surrounding area, has long been one of my favorite places to visit in Texas. In fact, just typing these words makes me want to jump in a convertible and head down to spend a few days on the Riverwalk. And now, we have one more reason to want to go. ....

Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge the largest wildlife crossing in the United States.
Reclaiming natural habitat above Wurzbach Parkway, the Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge connects the previously divided halves of the 330-acre Phil Hardberger Park in north central San Antonio. The project was funded through private donations and the voter-approved city of San Antonio 2017-2022 Bond Program. ....

San Antonio opened a new overpass last month, called the Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge. It stretches 150 feet over a major arterial highway and took over two years to build. Pretty standard fare. Only, this infrastructure isn’t intended for automobiles, or even specifically for humans. It’s a “wildlife crossing,” built to offer animals in the area safe passage across the Wurzbach Parkway. The thoroughfare cuts directly through the 330-acre Phil Hardberger Park, a bio-deserve conservancy that’s home to a variety of animals. Animals that would regularly wander into the six-lane highway white-tailed deer, coyotes, raccoons can now take an alternative route. ....

A trio of recent picks by President-elect Biden for his environmental team will put environmental justice issues at the center of his administration s agenda.
As Juliet Eilperin, Brady Dennis and I report, Biden made a series of firsts with his top-level hiring decisions this week. Those picks are set to seriously tackle the disproportionate impact certain communities face from despoiled air and land.
