After he was released on parole in 2014 and his parole term ended in July 2018, Mafnas was arrested in April 2019. He drove her to an abandoned parking lot and pointed a black firearm at her and ordered her to do what he said, according to the charging documents. In recent filings, Paul Santos Mafnas Jr.’s lawyer has asked the court to exclude from trial his past 1995 and 1996 cases, in which he was convicted of kidnapping and raping multiple girls. Mafnas served 18 years of his 27-year sentence in prison and was let out early on parole in 2014. Parole board members said he had followed his parole conditions from 2014 to 2018. His five-year parole term was terminated a year early. In July 2018, he was a free man.
