Mafnas was convicted of sexually assault other girls who were also abducted at bus stops in 1995, according to Pacific Daily News files.
After he was released on parole in 2014 and his parole term ended in July 2018, Mafnas was arrested in April 2019. In the 2019 case, Mafnas is accused of approaching a girl by the old Pizza Hut in Tamuning and kidnapping her, documents stated. He drove her to an abandoned parking lot and pointed a black firearm at her and ordered her to do what he said, according to the charging documents. Mafnas sexually assaulted the girl, and afterward the girl cried to drop her at school, which Mafnas did, court documents stated.
In recent filings, Paul Santos Mafnas Jr.’s lawyer has asked the court to exclude from trial his past 1995 and 1996 cases, in which he was convicted of kidnapping and raping multiple girls.
Mafnas served 18 years of his 27-year sentence in prison and was let out early on parole in 2014. Parole board members said he had followed his parole conditions from 2014 to 2018. His five-year parole term was terminated a year early. In July 2018, he was a free man.
Less than a year later, in April 2019, Mafnas was arrested and accused of kidnapping a then-10-year-old girl who was walking to her bus stop in the morning and sexually assaulted her in his car, the charging documents stated.
