A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date for Padre Pedro Navarro, formerly of Union City, New Jersey. Born in Gran Canaria, Spain, he passed away Feb. 5. Padre Pedro entered the seminary in the Canary Islands. He continued his studies for the priesthood in Havana, Cuba; Quebec, Canada and Oviedo, Spain. Pedro was ordained to the priesthood on September 12, 1963 in the Cathedral in Havana, Cuba and remained there until 1968. He then went to Caracas, Venezuela where he co-founded the Parroquia Nuestra Senora de la Caridad (the patroness of Cuba). While in Venezuela, he visited a remote Amazon village and lived with the village people for a couple of months. From Caracas he came to Union City, New Jersey in 1976, where Archbishop Gerety assigned him to the St. Michael’s Monastery Parish Church.
