Two local hospital systems are holding separate drug take-back events to encourage the community to dispose of unwanted medications.
Spectrum Health Healthier Communities, Priority Health and Families Against Narcotics Grand Rapids Chapter have teamed up once again to collect unused and unwanted prescription drugs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Spectrum Health Healthier Communities (Widdicomb Building), 665 Seward Ave. NW, and Spectrum Health Medical Group South Pavilion, 80 68
th Street SE, both in Grand Rapids.
The same day, the city of Wyoming and Metro Health-University of Michigan Health will help households across their community dispose of prescription and over-the-counter medications safely and properly. ....

MICHIGAN — Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine was approved late Friday night by the FDA, setting off a rush to get the vaccine shipped out of the company s Portage facility by the end of the weekend.
Pfizer announced Saturday their vaccine would begin shipping early Sunday morning, however FedEx said in an interview with FOX 17 they would not begin shipping until Monday, Dec. 14th, so facilities would have time to prepare.
A spokesperson from Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids believes they are among the first hospitals in the state to receive the vaccine.
Spectrum has said in the past that they are prepared to receive the vaccine within 24 hours of shipping. ....

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer will soon start arriving in West Michigan, with the first group of people approved to receive it including frontline healthcare workers and first responders.
I believe you can start seeing vaccine in West Michigan in the next week, to week and a half, said Mary Wisinski, immunizations supervisor at the Kent County Health Department.
While we re waiting for that, we re still continuing our planning efforts, which we ve been doing since last August. ....
