Virtual performances celebrate Persian New Year The video streaming is March 21-28. Nowruz is celebrated by more than 300 million people each year in Iran, Afghanistan, throughout Central Asia and in the Kurdish regions of Iraq, Turkey and Syria. Discover the traditions of Nowruz, enjoy performances and learn the basics of Persian rhythms with Etemadzadeh and Persian dancing with Nayun. Meaning “new day,” Nowruz is a celebration of spring and new beginnings. Starting with the spring equinox, festivities last for two weeks, during which time people celebrate with dance, music, eating traditional foods, traveling and seeing relatives. Etemadzadeh is a Middle Eastern musician, instructor, performer and composer. Born and raised in Iran, he studied and received extensive musical education from various masters. He currently manages his music academy, “Amir School of Music,” and teaches Persian and Middle Eastern instruments to chidren and adults.
