Florida Studio Theatre is giving audiences a chance to see five new plays that are in development and support its Playwright Collective initiative.
The theater has been working dozens of writers during the pandemic to prepare new plays for future full productions. The readings will be presented online and each will be followed by a discussion and feedback session.
The series opens at 3 p.m. Jan. 29 with “Last Call at the Old Slave Quarters Lounge,” a new play by Kenneth Jones, author of “Alabama Story.” It is set in a popular Mississippi restaurant where some old secrets are finally revealed, altering the lives of a family of restaurateurs.
