Hotels but with rentals. back here beyond perdido pass. this is orange beach s last line of defense. all we have in place is a booming strategy to contain surface contaminants, surface oils. my concern and i have been asking this for weeks, is this going to be submerged in the water? the boom will not stop oil or contaminants below three feet. that is about all we ve got here. never been able to get an answer. reporter: and certainly a lot of frustration felt all up and down the coast. 32 miles of coastline and beaches here in alabama and the mayor would like to see the president stop here not just skip over orange beach even though he is stopping in alabama. president obama will get out on the water in a boat to get close up to the oil spill. he will talk to local officials how containment efforts are ....

Over towards perdido pass. what they ve done, they don t want to you get in the water. they want you to stay above the high tide line. everything else in florida is looking good. here you can see a tower cam. from dan, and you can see all of the beaches. they look beautiful here. chairs set up. there are people we ve seen already getting in the water early this morning. there are a lot of places where you can still go and get out in the water, and most of the beaches that do have those advisories, by the way, have posting. stow says, don t get in the water here if you have those problem. heat is another issue. makes you want to go to the beach. does it? heat advisories in effect across the mississippi valley. memphis, greenville, mississippi, jackson, as well as new orleans, where the heat index is like 105 to 110 degrees at times. it s brutal, if you want to hit the beaches early and maybe spend time with the air conditions for the afternoon. suzanne? thank you, jacqui. despite th ....

It s all over the length of the beach. it s at the waterline. the oil is also in the surf itself, in other words, where the waves break as they come ashore you can see the patches of oil roiling around in the water quite a ways out from the shore. this extends from there s a fishing pier near the perdido pass. it goes west down hotel row. the oil is on the beach all the way down. also interesting to note is there are no workers out here right now cleaning it up. there s evidence that they were here yesterday. the bags from what they picked up yesterday are here. the tents where they were working out of are here. but there are no workers here right now picking it up. perhaps the decision has been made to wait until it all comes ashore and the tide recedes far enough where they can get it all. but they have a full-time job ahead of them now. and the other thing is that you can smell this oil. it s a very unpleasant smell. it s very definitely an oil ....

Especially over near perdido pass to have room for the skimmers. they have restrictions there. allow the ships to move through and do what they need to do but that s the latest from the coast. back the you in the studio. one thing i didn t understand, one of the officials who said if you re sensitive to oil products, i guess, that you should stay out of the water and be careful. wouldn t that apply to everybody? you should not be exposed to this kind of stuff, this oil. reporter: you d think so but i think they re thinking of people with issues with respiratory issues. you can smell, when the wind shifts a little bit, you get a huge whiff of the oil, the smell across the water. i imagine anyone suffers from emphysema has that. sensitive skin, their skin would be irritated more readily than some others. no question about it. it s common sense. if you see oil on the water, get to shore. ....
