The incumbents in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Peoria City Council Districts will move to the April general election. In the 1st District, which includes the South Side, downtown, and the North Valley, former TV news reporter Denise Jackson led two-term incumbent Denise Moore with 57% of the vote. Moore had 28%. Aaron Chess came in third, with just under 15% of the vote. Councilman Chuck Grayeb earned 46% in the first round of his bid to retain his 2nd District seat, serving the West Bluff and parts of Central Peoria. Originally elected to the position in 2013 after serving as an at-large representative from 1995-07, Grayeb will face Peter Kobak in the April 6 general election. Kobak, a recruiter for District 150, received 35% of the vote, while James Kemper earned 20%. ....

Andre Allen, Steve Kouri and Patricia Melaik are vying for the seat that has been held by Jim Montelongo since 2013. Montelongo opted to run for mayor instead of seeking re-election, opening the seat to a council newcomer. Allen is dean of students at Methodist College and chairs Peoria s Advisory Committee on Police-Community relations, in addition to serving on the boards for the Peoria Public Schools Foundation, the Peoria Promise Foundation and the Tri-County Urban League. He is making his second bid to join the council after falling just short of election to an at-large seat in 2019. ....

In business since 1969, C&L Vacuum closed about two years ago. According to King Zone owner Muhdi “Mike” Issa, his store is to include groceries as well as a grill for prepared, ready-to-eat foods. He also would like to be able to sell package liquor. “The (liquor) license, if we have it, can help the business grow a little bit,” Issa said. “Our service is not just for the neighborhood. It serves the whole street.” ....
