HARRISBURG (TNS) — An unanticipated last-minute surge in college students applying for financial aid has created a dilemma for Pennsylvania’s student financial aid agency.
The program aimed at building up the teacher workforce to address an educator shortage saw interest from student teachers far and away outpacing the funds available.
Due to a change in the Student Aid Index, more students qualify for the need-based state grant and officials say that's driving the need for $23 million more to keep awards at their current level.
