(WECT) - The N.C. Forest Service and Pender County Emergency Management officials say the large landfill debris fire in Hampstead is likely to burn for months, potentially up to a year or longer. The fire broke out on February 15, when firefighters were called to the scene and the county was made aware of the unusual situation. “Escapement of this fire would truly pose a threat to the communities and people that live in the Hampstead area, along Hwy 17 and Hwy 210,” said Pender County Fire Marshal Tommy Batson. ....

(WECT) -Two people are accused of stealing catalytic converters in the Burgaw area. According to the Pender County Sheriffâs Office, Christian Houston and Britney Guzman, both of Harrells, N.C., were arrested on Feb. 22 and charged with multiple counts of felony larceny of motor vehicle parts, injuring or tampering with motor vehicles and conspiracy to commit felonious larceny. âThey were charged with the larceny of a converter from the C&G Auto sales in Burgaw and the larceny of another converter and damage to another vehicle at the Pike Creek AME Church outside Burgaw,â a news release states.
