Covid-19: RM3.9bil allocated for procurement of 79.9 million vaccine doses, says Zafrul


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of RM3.9bil has been allocated by the government for the procurement of 79.9 million Covid-19 vaccine doses, which was implemented through a contractual agreement, says Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
He expressed appreciation to Japan, the United States, China and Britain for their contribution of 2.9 million vaccine doses.
God willing, the government is targeting 100% immunisation for all of our adult population by this October.
This (100% immunisation target) is the most important target in ensuring the success of the National Recovery Plan, he said during the ministerial briefing at the Dewan Rakyat Thursday (July 29). ....

Kuala Lumpur: The Government will announce the continuation of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) and fine-tune the other economic recovery measures during the tabling of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and Budget 2022.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin
(pic) said the 12MP is expected to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Sept 20, 2021 and Budget 2022 on Oct 29, 2021.
“I would like to inform that Budget 2022 will focus on three key areas, namely agenda to drive economic recovery, rebuild country’s resilience and catalysing reforms or Recovery, Resilience and Reform.

“Towards this end, a special focus will be given on efforts to revive affected sectors such as tourism, improve the capability of the public healthcare system as well as social protection scope, and boost the digital economy to strengthen the nation’s competitiveness in facing the new normal globally,” h ....

Hotel industry's defining moment


The industry is already running on massive losses due to low occupancy rates throughout 2020 until now.
Compounding matters is that there is little visibility in sight of when movement and travel bans will be lifted due to the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic resulting from new highly transmissible and airborne variants.
Like many businesses that face challenging times, mergers and acquisitions deals involving hotels are popping up as owners opt to sell out rather than incur more losses. Meanwhile opportunistic buyers with fat wallets are scouring the scene.
Listings of hotels for sale in Malaysia have jumped 40% year-to-date due to rising interest from both local and overseas investors, says Previndran Singhe of Zerin Properties, adding that prices for hotel properties have dropped by as much as 35% as compared to pre-lockdown times. ....
