Nigeria's consumer protection agency summons hospitals accused of negligence in patients' death

The Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has issued notices of commencement of investigation and summons two hospitals accused of medical negligence leading to the deaths of the patients in their care.
Premier Medical Specialist Centre and Beachland Hospital were alleged to be responsible for the death of Peju Ugboma and Omolara Omoyajowo respectively, last week.
Akin Abayomi, the Lagos State commissioner for health, had earlier directed the state’s Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFMAA)
to investigate the allegations of unprofessional conduct leveled against Premier Specialist Medical Centre, Victoria Island, leading to the death of Mrs Ugboma, a chef. ....

A Nigerian lady has narrated how her friend, Omolara Omoyajowo, died at Beachland Hospital Arepo, Lagos state, which she alleged was caused by negligence on the part of the hospital.
In a series of tweets on the microblogging platform, Twitter, she said Omolara was worked with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) who was known to have peptic ulcer, tested positive for malaria, and was been treated by the hospital.
She added that when the hospital saw they could no longer handle Omolara’s case, they were referred to the Lagos State University Hospital (LASUTH) where she was pronounced dead. ....

Premier Hospital in the Victoria Island area of Lagos has been enmeshed in a web of alleged negligence as the family of Lagos-based pastry chef, Peju Ugboma, who is the founder of I Luv Desserts, has accused of being responsible for her untimely death.
According to a statement that has circulated on several online media platforms, Peju Ugboma had walked into the hospital for an elective fibroid surgery on April 22, 2021; unfortunately, she died on April 25 after suffering severe internal bleeding.
According to reports, pathologists at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital carried an independent autopsy as requested by the family and it was discovered that the late chef had two litres of blood in her abdomen and pelvic area. ....
