Hardline Hurriyat faction banned by Centre, says Shah

The Indian government has banned Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) in Jammu and Kashmir under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for promoting terrorism and anti-India propaganda. The group, formed by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in 2004, aims to establish Islamic rule and separate Jammu and Kashmir from India. The ban is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charge sheets against several TeH members for raising funds to support terrorist activities in Kashmir.
