Rescue crews on the missions in southern afghanistan and they re widely considered among the finest in the world. they re among the u.s. military s most elite, highly trained airmen. their specialty is combat rescue. flying on to battlefields under fire to recover wounded troops. quicker to get them to the operating room, the better the chances of survival. that s back home and here on the battlefield, as well. reporter: officially they re combat paramedics but the airmen go by the pedros. any soldier will tell you, if you re hurt in combat, you want the pedros coming for you. we joined the pedros on more than a dozen missions in southern afghanistan. almost as soon as we arrived, the airmen are called for a category alpha, the most urgent casualty. they suit up and take off almost immediately. ....
