As COVID numbers climb once again in the Upper Thumb, several school districts have been feeling the effects. That includes both the Ubly and Cass City school districts, both of which are going virtual due to quarantined students and a shortage of staff members.
“We have about seven or eight kids who tested positive and about six to seven staff members also,” said Ubly School District Superintendent Joe Candella. “Because of that, we will be going virtual this week.”

The district was informed a high school student had tested positive for the virus.
That information was posted on the district’s website by the superintendent’s secretary Teresa Dinsmoore.
A positive case was also detected in the district last week in a high school staff member.
Students who were in close contact with the student who tested positive have been identified and provided with quarantine instructions.
The district is working with Ann Hepfer, who is the health officer for both the Huron County Health Department and the Tuscola County Health Department, in addressing the issue and in doing contact tracing.
