Memorial park at 3 a. M. Thats when police say 23year old ivan gomez fired at police. Officers had to shoot back. Nobody was injured in the gunfire but gomez escaped. Neighbors werent allowed to leave their homes for much of the morning. I didnt know why what was going on. So, um, i got mad because my son has a responsibility just like everybody else. And he couldnt go to work. Officers found gomez about 10 30 this morning hiding nearby. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder of two Police Officers. Oakland had its first homicide of the year. It happened today about 1 30 this afternoon at 73rd avenue and bancroft. Police havent released information on what happened. The city saw a drop in homicide last year. The start of the new year means new laws. The one with perhaps the greatest impact is a new state law that will allow drivers licenses for undocumented immigrants.
