Of preliminary clearance in order to fill a slot, but i have publicly stated if that is the case, the access has to be limited in terms of the kind of information they can be in a position to receive or not receive. so i think that s something that we have to do as part of our security clearance review. jared kushner s reading the pdb. yes. i mean, director coats also said that the classified system is broken, that the clearance process is broken. so just to go into the weeds, i ll be a statesman for one second on this then go out, when you can stay in your statesman mode. i don t want to stress you out. when clearance takes that long a time, when top-secret clearance takes that long of time, there s a problem. exactly. and so you know that. and one reason there was a problem is because they re going, holy moly, this guy, the president loves this guy, i m coming up with this stuff that ....
What gets to the president s desk. that s really concerning for a number of reasons. the first, of course, is that you have people who are potentially susceptible to blackmail. and the second and equally as concerning is that it really makes foreign partners, foreign intelligence partners more reluctant to share classified information with the united states knowing that the people who are handling it and potentiallyi potentially giving it to the president could be vulnerable. the president has revealed classified information. he revealed classified information when he met with kislyak and lavrov last spring. released the nunes memo and redacted the fbi and justice department warnings. what we ve been talking about all hour, letting people with interim clearances look at something as sensitive as the pdb is unprecedented. the president would say on advice from counsel that he gets to declassify anything that he chooses to. so, whatever he says is there by ....
Is reporting that the president skips daily written deintelligee reports. you saw this is risky. why? well, you know, my experience is that the pdb, the daily intelligence brief, is a very important document because it provides intelligence on what threats the united states is confronting in the world. and there is an awful lot of work that goes into putting that intelligence briefing together. and if president doesn t want to read that but just relies on some kind of personal briefing, oral briefing, something is going to be missed. you are not going to pick up all the nuances of the intelligence that is in that report. ....
Like this isn t just about a president who doesn t read, but a president who doesn t tend to, what george w. bush and i m sure president obama thought was the gravest aspect of the presidency. it s right. so on those day when he didn t actually have a pdb session, we can assume he got no intelligence. that s very dangerous because on any given day the president can be talking to foreign leaders. he ll be making decisions that affect national security. what pdb editors do is tee up in the book that morning information that is specifically relevant to the president s day. and so to philip s reporting, i think it s a fair point that if the president is not given a book to read, even if he misses that oral briefing, he needs to be able to absorb that information. if the washington post reporti reporting is correct, again, that is saying the president is missing out with regards to defending national security. on the other hand, you know, on the days he didn t have ....
could we have any more nixon parallels? nixon presumably didn t need the pdb because he spent his entire day talking to kissinger. talked to kissinger 17 or 18 times i take it very differently nixon is easily the most sophisticated foreign intelligence who has ever served in the presidency. again, not to go back to this point, but we had all this evidence during the campaign. he couldn t define what the nuclear triad was which is not a complicated thing particular already for someone 70 years old when we had nuclear weapons on air and on sea. tri is three, right? thank you very much. so, you know, i would be staggered to read that trump sits around reading his briefing. how on earth if someone is in a story that says trump read his ....
