Sri Lanka Reports 6 Cases of Blood Clots Among 925,000 AstraZeneca Vaccine Recipients, 3 Dead
NEW DELHI Sri Lanka has found six cases of blood clots among recipients of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, three of whom have died, Health Minister Pavithra Waniarachchi told parliament on Wednesday.
Nearly a million people, 925,000 of the country’s 21 million population, have been given the first dose of the Indian-made vaccine in the country. No announcement of any halt to the vaccination program has been made.
Waniarachchi has received the vaccine, which were donated by the Indian government.

NEW DELHI, April 21 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka has found six cases of blood clots among recipients of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, three of whom have died, Health Minister Pavithra Waniarachchi told parliament on Wednesday.

Addressing the Parliament, Health Minister Pavithra Waniarachchi reveals that six persons reported blood clots after being administered the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in Sri Lanka.
Among them, three persons among the six have passed away.
World Health Organization (WHO) Vaccine Committee says a direct link between blood clots and the vaccine has not been identified. In comparison to other health concerns, the probability of blood clots is very minimal. It has been estimated that the occurrence of these clots happens between four to six times for every million vaccines administered.
Furthermore, A special unit established at the National Hospital to inform about any side effects after administering COVID-19 vaccines. A hotline also introduced - 011 3415985, stated Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi ....
