The Socorro Independent School District board of trustees named a former SISD trustee to fill an at-large trustee position left vacant after Paul Garcia resigned late last month.
Michael Najera was appointed by the board to fill the post in a unanimous 4-0 vote at a special board meeting Tuesday.
Najera was appointed by the board to fill the post in a unanimous 4-0 vote at a special board meeting after the board reviewed candidate applications, which were open to the community.
The board had the option to hold a special election in November or appoint someone to fill the post, per a special board meeting on April 26 brought forward by SISD board President Cynthia Cindy Najera. She is one of only two SISD school board incumbents to win reelection in the general election May 1.
