More than 800 runners took part the in St Helens 10k over the weekend - and here are the winners
St Helens Mad Runners LOCKDOWN couldn t stop more than 800 runners pounding the pavement this weekend to take part in the 11th annual St Helens 10k - the first to be held virtually. The coronavirus pandemic meant organisers of the GPW Recruitment St Helens 10k had to switch from a traditional race to a virtual one , with participants given the choice of running their own course on Saturday, March 6 or Sunday, March 7. An app from TDL Event Services tracked the individual runner s progress and provided them with information about their time, which was sent back to organisers.

TWENTY years ago today Saints made history when they were crowned World Champions for the first time. And what a night it was at a freezing cold Reebok Stadium where the men in the men in the red vee, superbly led by Captain Fantastic Chris Joynt, edged a thriller against Brisbane Broncos. After the damp squib of the 44-6 mauling by Melbourne Storm the year before, nobody had given Saints much a prayer in 2001 when Wayne Bennett s Broncos flew in. After all the Broncos roster, running out at Bolton, featured a who s who of world rugby league s biggest names. Despite the names Darren Lockyer, Lote Tuqiri, Wendell Sailor, Shaun Berrigan, Shane Webcke, Petero Civoniceva and Gorden Tallis dripping off the announcer s lips ahead of the game, Saints had not turned up with their autograph books.
An artist s impression of the bookshop A LAST rallying call is being issued for residents of St Helens to get behind the project to bring a community bookshop to the town centre. The project needs to reach a minimum target of £40,000 for the project to become a reality. At the time of writing, the project has massed £34,000, more than three quarters of the way to the target, with one week to go. The former Furniture Boutique on Bridge Street, part of Church Square Shopping Centre, will be transformed into a bookshop set to launch in March, should the project go ahead.
