Letter: Looking at minimum wage, struggling SC restaurants differently

Letter: Looking at minimum wage, struggling SC restaurants differently Elizabeth Bardsley, Letter to the Editor submission © MATT BURKHARTT/Staff John Makkas, owner of Ji-Roz Greek restaurant in Greenville, and line cook Paul Rohling, chop up and wrap pork belly from Bethel Trails Farms in Gray Court, Wednesday, November 18, 2020. The pork belly was prepared for 100 meals to be donated to the Phoenix Center, an addiction, treatment and rehabilitation center, facilitated by the Anchorage s nonprofit, ReGrow SC, with funds allocated from the CARES act. One of the stipulations of the partnership was that the meals had to be sourced locally. The recent article “many Upstate business leaders oppose $15 wage” was a hit job on workers in SC. Interviewing economic developers, investors and various chambers of commerce rather than companies already employing people is always going to yield a negative reaction to finally raising the minimum wage.
