The U.S. ambassador to Russia on Sunday ended his tenure as America s top diplomat in Moscow after nearly three years - and as Ukraine enters its seventh month of conflict with Russia.
well, i mean we don t have much information about him first and foremost. we just have the statement released by the fsb, one of the main russian intelligence services in this country saying on december 28th, a couple of days ago, they arrested a u.s. citizen in moscow, the russian capital, whilest he was spying is the phrase they used. he has been named at paul nicholas whelan and he is in detention here. that s all we know. we don t know what he was acc e accused of doing specifically. the state department issued a statement over the u.s., but that s not shedding much light on it either. basically they are acknowledging they have been formally told this citizen is in detention. they asked access and expect the russian authorities to give that access, but they said the privacy considerations are not able to disclose further information at this stage. details at the moment about this
