YORK, Maine The fiberglass head of a watchful Paul Bunyan sits atop a weathered tree stump near an empty field on a quiet back road, dutifully looking after the nearby river and the community. Like many old tales, the history of where this statue was placed first and how it came to rest in its current spot has little documentation and relies heavily on oral accounts, including from family of the property owners, neighbors and giant statue fans. Details are hard to come by and even harder to confirm.
