Of all of the people that those young men might have been. mark, when you think about this day, when you look back on the 75th commemoration at the 80th or the 85th, you ll not see as many veterans of this war as you did today. no. you re right, hallie. they are fast fading from this earth. and, again, as i mentioned earlier, their stories are worth preserving because of the self-sacrifice and what they represented not only for our nation but for the world. but when i think about d-day, i also think about the man who would become our 34th president, dwight eisenhower and the remarkable thing that he did before the invasion which is to write a letter in which he took full blame for what was to happen and he famously wrote in that letter, if any blame or fault attaches to the attempt, it is mine alone. and that reflects his character and the character that we ve so often seen in the office of the presidency throughout the course ....
