BDO tells staff to work where they want post-pandemic

Accounting firm BDO has told its 5,500 staff that they can work where they want post-pandemic, in the latest sign that a significant proportion of white collar workers will not return to city centres when Covid restrictions are fully lifted. 
The UK s fifth biggest accountant said it would ask employees to work wherever they feel they can be most productive depending on the task they are doing, which will most likely involve a mix of working from home, in the office and on client sites.  ....

BDO wins biggest international audit client replacing Big Four firm KPMG
BDO has won its largest international client from KPMG.
BDO in the UK, German and the US has won its largest ever international audit client, replacing KPMG as auditor of software giant SAP.
The challenger firm will take over from KPMG as SAP’s auditor for the 2023 financial year. According to SAP, BDO has a “modern and innovative audit concept”.
The decision to take on BDO will officially be decided at SAP’s annual general meeting in 2022.
SAP said it started the audit tender process early to give the new audit firm sufficient time for onboarding and transition. ....

BDO eases promotion pause and makes 20 new partners
20 employees have been promoted to partner and BDO, after waiting six months for the promotion.
Some 20 employees at BDO have finally been promoted to partner at the firm, having had their promotions delayed for six months because of Covid-19. 
The new partners work across the audit firm’s tax, audit and advisory teams and their promotions are effective from 1 January. 
A total 470 staff that were due promotions in May and June 2020 were promoted at the start of 2021, including the 20 new partners.
BDO’s leadership team is also reviewing a number of additional staff promotions, with the aim to make those effective from February. ....

RSM pays back £4.4m furlough cash
RSM has paid back furlough money to the government.
Audit challenger firm RSM has repaid £4.4m to the government, having decided to do so in a board meeting earlier this month,
City A.M can reveal. 
RSM’s board made the decision to repay the the money in full on 8 December. CEO Rob Donaldson said the firm did not see the decision as an opportunity to seek publicity, and so made no announcement of the move at the time. 
“As the pandemic unfolded and the pressures on the economy and our business intensified, we drew upon a number of measures to preserve our business, protect jobs and continue to provide the best possible service to our clients. With a strong control over our cost base, and the resilience and talent of our people we have done an incredible job adapting to a new working environment,” he said.  ....
