A new weight-loss device that uses magnets to stop a person s jaw from opening wide enough to eat solid foods has been developed to help fight the global obesity epidemic.
The tool, developed by researchers from the United Kingdom and the University of Otago in New Zealand, uses magnetic devices with unique custom-manufactured locking bolts that can be fitted to the upper and lower back teeth.

ويلينغتون: ابتكر باحثون نيوزيلنديون جهازاً لإنقاص الوزن يستخدم المغناطيس لربط فكّي المريض، قائلين إنه أداة جديدة لمكافحة البدانة رغم أن البعض شبّهه بأدوات التعذيب في القرون الوسطى.
ويتضمن الابتكار الأول من نوعه في العالم تركيب مغناطيس مستخدم في عيادات طب الأسنان وقفل البراغي عند الأضراس العلوية والسفلية للمريض، ما يسمح بفتح الفكين لميليمترين فقط.
وقال الباحث الرئيسي بول برونتون، من كلية العلوم الصحية بجامعة أوتاغو، إن هذا الابتكار الجديد يرغم الشخص المعني على اتباع نظام غذائي يقتصر على السوائل من دون إعاقة التنفس أو الكلام.

DentalSlim Diet Control is an intra-oral device fitted by a dental professional to the upper and lower back teeth. It uses magnetic devices with unique custom-manufactured locking bolts.
