Destructive wildfire seasons inspired Titan’s shift to renewable diesel a year ago, after a fire devastated Phoenix, Oregon, five miles from one of the firm’s terminals. “Doing nothing is not a course of action,” is how Titan’s owner Keith Wilson described his visceral response.
Wilson knew climate change was stoking Cascadia’s fires, and that diesel vehicles produce over a third of Oregon’s transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions. Biofuels cut Titan’s petroleum diesel consumption by 93% and cut its carbon footprint by over two-thirds. ....

Slate and its supermarket partner break ground in Queens

Slate Property Group and Grobman-Gross Properties have broken ground for their 166-unit mixed-use project at 69-65 Yellowstone Boulevard in Queens.
The development will include 50 affordable apartments and 186 parking spaces across 210,000 s/f in the Forest Hills neighborhood.
The Aufgang Architects-designed building, composed of brick and a large green vertical wall, includes 50,000 s/f of retail space on the cellar and ground floors.
69-65 Yellowstone Boulevard will also feature a large, landscaped common outdoor recreation space on the third floor and rooftop and multiple terraces on each floor for personal outdoor space to tenants. The project is slated for completion in 2023. ....

After more than a decade of the supposedly eco-friendly Pacific Northwest and British Columbia falling short on pledges to fight climate change, a new blueprint emerged last month for how to eliminate all but a sliver of fossil-fuel emissions.
The 428-page plan by Washington state outlines how to make a wholesale shift to renewable energy and meet some of the most ambitious climate-protection goals on the planet. It calls for building a regional network of solar and wind energy stations and transmission lines allowing sharing of power across the western U.S. and Canada. ....
