The Supreme Court is one of the nations most vital institutions. Its decisions have consequences wideranging and farreaching and the publics ability to learn how and why those decisions were made is critical to maintaining open justice. This transparency is a foundational element of the Supreme Court cost integrity. For many of the courts most notable cases, we know how the majority reached this decision, which justices agree or disagree with majority opinion and why, and we have detailed briefings from litigants and third parties about their views. In most instances, this process gives the public months to scrutinize and understand the significant issues and their potential impact. Yet, not all of the courts work takes place openly.
