More of those on New Brunswick's ballooning wait list for a family doctor will soon have access to primary health-care providers. Health Minister Bruce Fitch said Friday a program called Health Link that began in the Moncton health zone will expand to the Fredericton zone within the coming weeks.
The Patient Connect New Brunswick list is growing. There are currently 63,000 New Brunswickers waiting for a doctor 23,000 more than when New Brunswick’s health plan was announced in November.
Six months ago, Health Minister Dorothy Shephard said her department was taking over recruitment from the regional health authorities, and focusing on the elimination of the wait list for primary care. Since then, it has decreased by less than 10 per cent, with 40,000 names still on the list.
