Read Article Two of the more successful football coaches in the state will match wits and game plans to help kick off Saturday’s Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl 7-on-7 tournament at Lewiston High School. Leavitt coach Mike Hathaway and Marshwood coach Alex Rotsko will lead their respective rosters against each other in one of the first four games of the tournament’s pool play, which are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Hathaway’s Team Green and Rotsko’s Team Purple are both in Pool A, along with Oxford Hills coach Mark Soehren’s Team Gold and Mountain Valley coach Devin Roberts’ Team Grey. Those two teams will face off in the other Pool A opening matchup. ....

The Maine high school football senior all-star game, which for 30 years pitted players from the East against their counterparts from the West in a traditional 11-on-11 tackle football game, was facing a second straight summer with no game due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions surrounding it. After initially deciding to cancel this year’s event, organizers instead decided to turn it into a 7-on-7 tournament. ....
Gardiner High closing in on starting turf field construction at Hoch Field School still short of fundraising goal, but has hopes of starting work in early 2021. Joe Phelan/Kennebec Journal Everything was lining up for the installation of a brand-new artificial turf at Gardiner Area High School last year. And then came delays. And logistical issues. And then COVID hit. In April of 2019, the hopes were to start construction on the new facility at Hoch Field in May. The project still has not been completed, but Gardiner athletic director Nate Stubbert said the school is a fundraising push away from being able to start the work, with an optimistic target for the beginning of construction being either late December or January 2021. ....
