Read Article WATERFORD Waterford resident Henry Howard addressed the Waterford Board of Selectmen Monday, April 12, regarding a property tax issue. He stated that the town has been charging him for two building lots. He was told the selectboard is in charge of taxes (because it is also the Board of Assessors), and he has been working with John Bell in order to prove he only has one building lot. He stated that he knows it was originally billed as a mistake (in 2006) and said it has now been fixed for future billing, but was concerned with 15 years of over payment. Selectman Randy Lessard said that the state statute only allows the board to go back one year for abatement. He also stated that September 1 is the commitment date and though Howard’s paperwork is dated today, it is past the 185 day time period for abatement; however, the other way to potentially solve the problem is for the Select Board to look into the matter, which, he stated, it is willing to do. ....

wisconsin budget battle descends on the state capitol over the budget that the new republican governor stands by saying it will save jobs. is this bill going to pass as is or is there any movement at all. i think in the end, we have made significant adjustments to address legitimate concerns people have raised throughout the hearing process. again, we re broke, we got to balance the budget, and only alternative is to say 5,500 state workers could be laid off. 5,000 to 6,000 teachers or government workers could be laid off. i don t want to lay anybody off. give them the tools, give them the modest opportunity for local governments as well as the state to balance the budget and we re going to firmly on that. casey, the governor says he s going to save wisconsin jobs, wisconsin does have a budget crisis, so why the protests? reporter: well, there s very different views here in wisconsin about the governor s proposal and what the state should be doing to balance its b ....
