The All Peoples Church project, which proposes to build a 900-seat sanctuary and two-story parking garage on a 6-acre plot of land zoned for housing near Interstate 8 and College Avenue in Del Cerro, has cleared an important hurdle.
The San Diego Planning Commission is recommending approval of a new church project in Del Cerro after listening to more than two hours of comments from supporters and opponents.

Re “Del Cerro residents protest megachurch” (Dec. 20): Pastor Robert Herber and the Atlantis Group (lobbyist for the church) continue to convey they want to be good neighbors, but will not speak of the issues regarding traffic, they will not address the reports, they will not address the fact this was a small church that was going to be built and presented it in that fashion to the Navajo planning group and now it has grown to the size of the White House with a parking structure.
The church says it now will not build a school, although it will have many classrooms as part of this project, and it already has many college and high school classes running along with Lifegroups, young ministry, etc. More importantly, conditional to this permit, it would not be allowed to operate a school, however in the future it would simply need to reapply to update the permit allowing for a school.
