Delta Air Lines posts Q4 posts profit, beating expectations

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc posted a fourth quarter profit on Friday, beating Wall Street estimates. The company's bottom line totaled $2.04 billion, or $3.16 per share. This compares with $0.83 billion, or $1.29 per share, in last year's fourth quarter. Excluding items, Delta Air Lines Inc reported adjusted earnings of $826 million or $1.28 per share for the period. How passenger electric planes could become a reality within the next decade

The race to decarbonize the aviation industry is heating up, with researchers finding a way to make passenger airplanes operate on 100% electric power. A newly designed electric aircraft, called the E9X, can now hold more passengers and fly farther than what was previously thought to be possible, according to aviation startup Elysian, which conceptualized the design along with the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Prior to this design, the consensus among industry experts has been that battery-electric air travel would be confined to small planes only aircraft that could hold a maximum of 20 passengers and travel less than 200 miles without having to land, Jayant Mukhopadhaya, a senior researcher at the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), told ABC News. ....
