It happened at reagan airport, right? unbelievably this was the second time it happened in two years. apparently it happened once before when a guy stepped out of the control tower, we believe they he forgot to bring his magnetic pass card with him, door was locked, he couldn t get in. they made mention of this on the air traffic recording. listen up. is there a reason it s not manned? i m going to take a guess and say that the controller got locked out. i ve heard of this happening before. first time i ve heard it. reporter: again, there are procedures in place, jon, as you know, for these kinds of events, an uncontrolled approach, they re trained to do it, but the risk is there s a lot going on on the ground at night, there s not a lot of air traffic, a lot of planes being repositioned, vehicular traffic. it poses a very dangerous situation. jon: deg mckelway at reagan international airport, thank you. jenna: some with the scare ....
Controller was the only one in the tower. which obviously raises some questions about staffing there. not the only time this has happened at reagan national airport. another occasion a controller locked himself out. he went to the restroom and forgot electronic pass card to get back. in 12:10 a.m. american airlines jet with 97 on board was handed off by ache critical condition numb for terminal radar approach control. handed off to the local tower for final approach of the repeated calls from the cockpit to the tower went unanswered. the pilot aborted his landing and went around again. he contacted again and they advised him for using procedures for uncontrolled airport like you would find in a rural place. he landed safely and then about 15 minutes later a united airlines flight from chicago with 68 passengers on board had the same trouble contacting the tower. but it also landed safely, shep. shepard: we all need our sleep. does this person still work for them? he or she has not ....
