DHAKA: The World Bank has approved US$300mil (RM1.36bil) to help Bangladesh improve the efficiency of gas distribution and end-use through prepaid metering systems for residential and industrial consumers and reduce methane emissions along the natural gas value chain.
The government has been deprived of about Tk 4,697 crore for 19 counts of irregularities by Petrobangla and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, found an audit.
The installation of prepaid gas meters is going on at a snail’s pace even though the system comes with many perks, including cuts in customers’ cost and a reduction in gas wastage.
