IT was quite special to be given a glimpse of the traditions and culture of Tiwi Islanders, especially when coupled with film footage dating back as far as 1912.
Tiwi Strong Women is a small group who have been singing and dancing together since they were girls. Theirs is a goal of preserving language, as well as music and arts traditions, which they now are passing on to their own grandchildren.

CLOSE UP, intimate and fun was the experience for the audience in this Canberra International Music Festival concert over seven spaces in the Gorman Arts Centre in Braddon.
Concert 13 at the 2021 CIMF titled “Up Close at Gorman” began with the multi-talented Ariana Odermatt. Playing the clavicytherium, which is an itsy-bitsy vertical harpsichord that creates a booming resonance for the performer because the soundboard is in the player’s face. The very early music performed was “De che le morta la mia signora”, Anon early 16th century, “O ye tender babes” by Thomas Tallis (1505-1585) and “Proœmium in re” by Hans Kotter (1485-1541).

“WITH happiness” best describes how the audience reacted to having the Canberra International Music Festival back after the 2020 covid shutdown and hearing the Partridge String Quartet perform a seminal work of Franz Schubert.
The Partridge String Quartet, which takes its name in honour of a previous member of the group, consists of William Huxtable, violin; Karla Hanna, violin; Eunise Cheng, viola; Daniel Smith, cello, and Blair Harris, cello.
“Gemütlichkeit” is a German word used to convey the idea of a state or feeling of warmth, friendliness, and good cheer”. And this quintet has all that, but with darker times soon ahead for Franz Schubert, his “String Quintet in C Major” D 956, composed in 1828 just before his death, covers much light and
