A former Gering City Councilman accused of child abuse has pleaded to charges in Scotts Bluff County Court.
Parrish Abel, 53, pleaded no contest to a charge of committing intentional child abuse, not resulting in injury, a Class IIIA felony, after entering into a plea agreement with the Scotts Bluff County Attorneyâs Office. The plea agreement was entered as part of court proceedings Thursday in Scotts Bluff County District Court.
As a part of the plea agreement, two additional charges of tampering with a witness, a Class IV felony; and intruding on a person without consent, a Class I misdemeanor, were dismissed.
Cody Bohl will be the latest member of the Gering City Council, as he was selected Monday night to fill the vacant Ward IV seat on that panel. The council voting 5 to 2 in favor of a nomination naming Bohl to the seat. He will fill the unexpired term left by the January resignation [.]

(Gering, NE) A Gering, Nebraska man is behind bars following a child abuse investigation.
The Nebraska State Patrol says Tuesday morning, a warrant was issued in Scotts Bluff County for 52 year old Parrish Abel. The NSP says charges include intentional child abuse, witness tampering, and unlawful intrusion. Intentional child abuse and witness tampering are felony charges.
The investigation stems from a report received by the Nebraska State Patrol, through the Gering Police Department, last month. Nebraska State Patrol investigators arrested Abel at his home Tuesday afternoon. He is being held in Scotts Bluff County Jail.
