JCP asked to appoint females as superior courts’ judges

ISLAMABAD:
The Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment has urged the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) to consider the nomination of females for appointment as judges of superior courts.
A letter was written by the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment to the JCP through its secretary who is the incumbent Supreme Court Registrar.
One member of the committee revealed to The Express Tribune that women and minority community are the weakest segment of society, therefore, their representation must be ensured in the bench.

The post of a judge is lying vacant in the Supreme Court since the retirement of Justice Faisal Arab in November last year. However, it will be a daunting task for Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed to fill that position due to a number of reasons.
The Balochistan Bar Council (BBC) – during a lawyers convention held in Quetta on Saturday – demanded that a Balochistan High Court (BHC) judge be elevated to the SC “as not a single” ethic Baloch judge – residing in Balochistan – has ever been elevated to the Supreme Court.
LHC CJ takes back names of lawyers recommended for posts of judges

ISLAMABAD: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan on Tuesday took back the names of lawyers he had recommended for their appointment as additional judges of the high court.
The meeting of Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) for the appointment of judges in the superior courts was held here at the Supreme Court, which was chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed.
The agenda of the meeting was to recommend the names of 16 lawyers, including three sessions judges, to be appointed as additional judges in LHC earlier recommended by the LHC chief justice. It was learnt that Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan took bake the names of 16 lawyers he had earlier proposed to the JCP for their appointment as additional judges of the LHC.
