Sol Faenconi Aguinaldo HAMPTON Sol Faenconi Aguinaldo passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital after a long battle with stage 4 lung cancer at the tender age of 67. Born in Manila, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Leopoldo and Maria Mamon Faenconi. Sol dedicated more than 32 years of service to the Veterans Health Administration; first, caring for others as a bedside nurse, and later, taking positions in Quality Management, Utilization Review, Medical Care Cost Recovery, as a clinical reviewer, case manager, patient transfer coordinator, bed czar and investigator. Her public service also had her working directly under the director’s office, chief of staff, business office, nursing department, patient representative and other national positions for the VA up and down the East Coast for many years, ultimately retiring her service at headquarters in Washington, D.C., in 2015. ....
Ida Parker Jenkins NEWPORT NEWS Ida Parker Jenkins, 92, peacefully passed away in her sleep Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021. Ida was born Sept. 26, 1928, and was the wife of James A. Jenkins, who preceded her in death May 25, 1988. Aside from the 15 years when she traveled the world as an Air Force officer’s wife, she lived on the Peninsula her entire life. She lived in the Woodmere section of Newport News since 1964. In her youth, she worked at First National Bank, Noland Company, in the civil service at Fort Monroe and North American Aviation. In 1963, she became a licensed cosmetologist. In the 1960s and 1970s, she was active in a number of local clubs and organizations, including the local gardening club. She enjoyed crafts and sewing. ....
Linda K. Robinson HAMPTON Linda K. Robinson, 66, former principal and head of school at Gloria Dei Lutheran School, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020, after a courageous 14-month battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and close friends. Linda was born June 1, 1954, in Bernice, Louisiana, to parents Ann Boone and the late Duie L. Brantley. She attended Radford University and went on to complete her Elementary Education Degree and post-graduate courses at Old Dominion University. Linda is survived by her mother, Ann Boone; son, Christopher Robinson (Jennifer); two cherished grandchildren, Kristina and Logan; and aunts and uncle in Bernice, Louisiana, Maudellen Hollis, Sue Buckley, Johnny Buckley, Barbara Yarbrough and Cathy Buckley. She also leaves to cherish her memory her dear friends and chosen family, Mary and Joe Capone and their daughter, Stephanie Payne (Jeremy); along with countless other close friends, colleagues and former students. ....
Melvin Gaddis Green Jr. HAMPTON Dr. Melvin Gaddis Green Jr., 72, took wings and left this place to seek peace and joy in the arms of God Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020. He was surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. He was born Sept. 14, 1948, in Greenville, South Carolina. Melvin was the son of Melvin Sr. and Alice Helen Green. His parents; brother, Charles; and niece preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Helen Green of Hampton; daughters, Jennifer Green of Dallas, Texas, Kimberly Green of Atlanta, Georgia, Anika Baker of Charlotte, North Carlina, and Schaan Baker of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Amaya, Kendall, Kennedy, Gabriel and Kayde; sister, Minnie Alice Green of Virginia Beach; and special caregiver, Lillian Greene, to everything we owe for all her love, support and comfort. ....
