The total number of COVID-related deaths is now at 16 in the province. Public Health confirmed that an individual aged 70 to 79 in Zone 4 (Edmundston region), and an individual aged 70 to 79 in Zone 2 (Saint John region), died as a result of underlying complications including COVID-19. The person in Zone 2 was a resident of Lily Court of Parkland Saint John’s Tucker Hall. “On behalf of all New Brunswickers, I extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of these two people,” said Health Minister Dorothy Shephard. “I offer my sincere sympathy to the families of the deceased, and I want them to know that all New Brunswickers grieve with them today,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health. ....

Joan Davis, a resident of the Tucker Hall nursing home at Shannex Parkland Saint John, died on Jan. 21 at the age of 79. Davis had spent the past several days being treated in the COVID unit after testing positive for the virus, according to her son, Peter Lewis. But Lewis said he was stunned to learn the doctor who signed his mother’s death certificate listed her cause of death as cancer. ....

HALIFAX New Brunswick Public Health is moving two health zones in the province back to the orange phase. Dr. Jennifer Russell, New Brunswick s chief medical officer of health, said Zone 2 (Saint John region) and Zone 3 (Fredericton region) will have more relaxed restrictions as of midnight on Tuesday. Russell said she recommended this move after seeing some hopeful signs. We see the result of our efforts, Russell told a news conference in Fredericton on Monday. Russell said public health took precautions and got ahead of the curve, hoping that they could quickly transition back to orange, and that s what they are doing. The two zones were only in the red phase for one week, she said. ....
