investigation of trump until the review is complete. i want to go to more from sarah murray in washington this morning. reporter: a judge granting donald trump s request for a special master to review the materials the fbi seized from the search at mar-a-lago. the judge writing because of trump s role as a former president the stigma associated with the seizure is in a league of its own. a future indictment would result in reputational harm of a decidedly different order of magn magnitude. a third party attorney outside of government will be tasked with sifting through thousands of documents to identify personal items and materials protected by attorney/client or executive privilege. while it does slow things down, which is bad for doj and their case. i think at the end of the day we re not going to see a lot of documents pulled by the special master. reporter: the ruling allowing u.s. intelligence agencies to continue their national security assessment. i don t ....
weekend and now the blast forward to election day nine weeks away. peter doocy at the white house neal, good afternoon we spent time with president biden on the campaign as he tried to make the case he thinks republicans like donald trump more than they like entitlement programs. speak with the biggest contrast from maga republicans the extreme right, the trumpies. they want to these maga republicans in congress are coming for your social security as well. you, by the way, as i said, you might think that i m making this stuff up because it s so outrageous. he is referring a plan by republican rick scott to make congress vote to reauthorize every spending program every five years and an attempt to cut down government waste. so now scott is challenging the premise of the president s claims there. of course he s going to lie about it but what i believe you have to do everything to preserve medicaid and social security. make sure these are lasting programs. so, cong ....
evan perez and sara murray have our reporting here. evan, first, what more can you tell us about the number of documents found and where? ana, we know according to the court filing, the fbi says they found more than 100 documents with classification markings in 13 boxes, some found in that storage room that had been the focus and the fbi as well as documents found in ma rar-a-lag. i ll read what the prosecutors said. they said the fbi in a matter of hours recovered twice as many documents with classification markings as the quote unquote diligent search that the former president s counsel and a representatives had weeks to perform and calls into question the representations made in the june 3rd certification and casts doubt on the extent of cooperation in this matter. what they re referring to, ana, this meeting in june where the former president s legal team said that, you know, they gave them some classified documents and said there were no more documents to be foun ....
subpoena and finally a search, investigators have retrieved 48 boxes including at least 320 classified documents, including 72 marked confidential, 108 secret, and 42 top secret. now, the filing as one former top fbi official puts it obliterates claims that the fo former president and his lawyers had been cooperating and negotiating in good faith to return the records. okay. so let s lay out the time line for you. the national archives had been working for months to get all of these missing records from trump even while he was in office. in january of this year, they finally got 15 boxes of records that trump had taken with him to mar-a-lago, though they did not belong to him. once the national archives saw the reckless way trump had handled so much sensitive information, they contacted the doj for help getting other classified documents back that were still missing. according to this filing, one of the most significant concerns was that highly classified records were ....
today marks the midterms going into high gear. the unofficial sprint towards election day as president biden touts his domestic recording with including those late summer break throughs while also arguing that democracy and believe it or not in a very real sense, trumpism are on this ballot. if you re counting, election day is just about nine weeks out. the maga republicans don t just threaten our personal rites and economic security, they re a threat to our very democracy. i do think anyone who calls for the use of violence who fails to condemn violence when it s used, refuses to acknowledge when an election has been won, that is a threat to democracy. i will not stand by and watch elections in this country stolen by people who simply refuse to accept that they lost. the trump-fueled effort to take over once independent election offices is clearly up for a test in these midterms. about half of americans, roughly, will choose their leaders from a ballot with at leas ....
