LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - The February freeze that left many East Texans in need of a plumber, illustrates a problem that those in the plumbing industry have known for years. There arenât enough young people going into trades like plumbing.
In Longview, that was evident when homeowners had to wait for days, sometimes weeks, because there werenât enough plumbers to answer the calls for help.
An event like Februaryâs winter storm, was one that Glen Parker, of âRichard Parker Plumbingâ in Longview, feared would come one day.

Plumbers Still Swamped By Bob Hallmark | March 3, 2021 at 5:48 PM CST - Updated March 4 at 11:40 AM
LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - More than two weeks after that winter storm, plumbers in East Texas are still working just as fast as they can to repair damaged pipes.
And some East Texans are still surviving without running water.
Every day at Parker Plumbing in Longview, calls for broken pipes keep coming in.
“We still have a list of busted pipes that we’re working on. So we’re just going to keep on hitting them hard, putting our vans out there, keeping them going,” says Parker Plumbing’s Juanita Coy.
Since Sunday plumbers in one East Texas county have been working non-stop for the enormous call for pipe repair. With hundreds of homes having pipes broken or leaking from the winter storm of last week, the call load is endless for plumbers in Longview.
