Portuguese police have today been spotted at the Barragem do Arade reservoir, near the town of Silves in southern Portugal, with some officers pictured arriving with wheelbarrows.
One of Brueckner s earlier victims, 34-year-old Anastasia Meckesy, today declared the sex offender had confessed to her in 2013 that he knew what happened to Maddie almost 15 years ago.
Brueckner, 44, who has been linked to four other child murders across Europe since 1996, was sensationally named by German prosecutors as the man responsible for Madeleine s kidnap.
Christian Brueckner, who is currently in jail in Germany for the rape of an American pensioner in Portugal in 2005, has requested a prison transfer because other inmates want to kill him.
