we re just a few minutes away from the closing bell on what has been a fairly muted day on wall street. let s have a quick look at the big board. see a lot of movement up and down over the break even line. right now, we re about 40 points higher. checking the other markets, it has been a mixed day through the course of the day but everything is in the green at the moment. in the last hour, planned parenthood filed a lawsuit along with the american medical association arguing a new rule from the trump administration could become, quote, a national public health crisis. the lawsuit was filed against health and human services secretary alex azar for what s been labeled the trump administration s gag rule. that rule could stop taxpayer-funded family planning clinics from referring women for abortions. title 10 is the only federal grant program dedicated to providing individuals with comprehensive family planning and related preventative health

rosenblum, attorney general of oregon, who led the national lawsuit and co-chair of the democratic attorney generals association. thank you very much for joining us. thank you for having me, ali. tell me what this looks like, this lawsuit, what you hope to achieve from it. right, well, this title 10 gag rule is just an astonishing setback to the quality of care, particularly for women, but for everyone, in our country, particularly for about 4 million vulnerab vulnerable americans. so i am very proud to be in the lead on this lawsuit which we filed today in oregon along with 21 states, including in the lead with me is new york attorney general tish james and of course, you mentioned planned parenthood and the american medical association filed today as well. so, it is our goal to ensure that 60 days from now when this rule would take effect, but for this lawsuit that the rule will not take effect and that these women patients of doctors and
health care. that s absolutely correct. what does this fros loproces like, planned pa ened parenthoo lawsuit, how will it look going forward? well, we filed today in eugene, oregon. our case has been assigned, the 21 attorney general and state cases have been assigned already to judge michael mcshane. the planned parenthood and ama case was also filed in eugene. so i m assuming that that case will also be assigned to the same judge. we ll move forward. we ll within a certain period of time file a motion for a preliminary injunction which hopefully would lead to this rule being set aside. and not implemented. and at some point, do these cases merge? or will they be kept separate? you know, that remains to be seen, of course, as you know, there s motion practice. there s all sorts of possibilities. but at this point, they re parallel cases. and, of course, we work closely with our partners. planned parenthood has been a big partner for democratic
services. it was designed to provide access to contraceptive services, supplies and information to anyone who would want and need them. in 20127, though, title 10, served 4 million family planning clients. nearly nine out of the ten clients were female. the new rules would prohibit title 10 funds from being used to perform, promote, refer for, or support abortion. and clinics will no longer have to counsel women on reproductive options including abortion. planned parenthood receives close to $60 million in family planning funding each year. and that funding is now in jeopardy. senate minority leader chuck schumer responded to the rule in a statement saying, this is yet another example of the systemic health care sabotage that republicans have been implementing since day one of the trump administration, but this time, women s reproductive rights are the casualty. in a different lawsuit yesterday, 21 states sued the trump administration over this gag rule. and joining me now, ellen
