A feared litter surge over the Easter weekend has caused experts to call on members of the public to help protect wildlife. In Cumbria, 20 calls were made to the RSPCA about animals affected by litter in 2020, and nearly 4,000 calls were made across the country. As travel restrictions have eased during the week leading up to the Easter weekend, there are fears that spikes in beach and national park visitations will result in an increase in litter. An RSPCA spokesperson said: “Now that the Government has eased some of the lockdown restrictions, we’re sure lots of families will be out and about in nature. But it’s our job to protect nature and that includes properly and responsibly disposing of our litter so that animals can’t be hurt. ....
