BEAUFORT: Swift action by the Fire and Rescue Station to extinguish a fire, believed to have started from the main fuse box, saved the Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Dun Hall from getting razed. Beaufort Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohammad Hasbollah Nenggok said the incident occurred at 3.52pm last Wednesday in the briefing room after one of the officers smelled smoke. “Preliminary investigation showed that the fire was caused by overload due to the use of many electrical items in the room. KOTA KINABALU: The state government-linked Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) will take the lead in flood mitigation management for flood-prone Beaufort district, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Hajiji said this would include proposed measures to deepen the Padas River there and realign its riverbanks, among other measures. On the part of the state government, we will take into consideration all proposals because we are not going to relent in our efforts to address the flood problem in Beaufort, ” he added. Beaufort was one of the districts in Sabah inundated following downpours and high tides last week, but the district is known to be flood-prone, especially if heavy rains occur at the interior divisions of Tenom and Keningau as rainwater flows down the rivers towards Beaufort. ....

A check at infobanjir.water.gov.my this afternoon found Sungai Padas in Beaufort, Malihah in Kuching; Sungai Jelai in Lipis and Sungai Pahang in Lubuk Paku, Maran and in Serambi, Pekan, Pahang; as well as Sungai Golok in Kuala Jambu, Kelantan still recording readings above the danger level. Kota Kinabalu: A total of 1,765 people from 567 families in four districts are now housed at 10 temporary relief centres (PPS) following floods due to heavy rains since Sunday. The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, in a statement, said 976 victims from 300 families in Kudat took refuge at three PPS which were opened Monday, as of Tuesday at 4pm. The PPS were at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tun Dato Hj Mustapha (90 people from 14 families), Rest House Lama Karakit (15 people from three families) and SK Sikuati (871 people from 283 families). ....
