Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier will proclaim America’s Independence Day on July 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with activities and programs.
Families will enjoy the chance to meet George Washington, hear about World War I from an American Doughboy, participate in 19th century games and take part in a ceremony concluding with a cannon fire salute. All visitors will have the opportunity to join staff for tours of the Breakthrough Battlefield which on April 2, 1865, resulted in the evacuation of both Petersburg and Richmond. ....

Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier welcomes Park Ranger and historian Zachary Pittard on July 1 at 7 p.m. to the Petersburg Civil War Roundtable.
Pittard will discuss the challenges of suppling an army during the Civil War in his presentation titled, “Considering What Has Been Said of Their Condition:’ Confederate Supply and Logistics.”
Civil War armies were no different than any other army at any time in history. When it comes to supplies and logistics, soldiers need to be clothed, fed, housed and horses and mules need to be acquired, cared for and trained. ....

Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier is opening a new exhibit this Memorial Day titled “We Fight for Our Rights, Liberty, Justice, and Union.”
The new exhibit – which opens on May 31 at 1:30 p.m. – tells the story of the enslaved and their fight for freedom during the American Civil War and the contributions of African-American military members through the 20th century. The exhibit focuses on the USCT or United States Colored Troops who were formerly enslaved African-Americans who joined the Union Army in their fight to end slavery and preserve the Union. ....
