The government has lifted the lockdown it imposed a week ago in Khyber Pakhtunkhwaâs Mardan district, an official said Sunday.
Habibullah Arif, Mardanâs deputy commissioner, told reporters that the decision to end the lockdown was taken after the coronavirus infection rate came down to 14 per cent from 48 per cent.
He said, however, that the restrictions in Mardan will be imposed again on May 8 as the provincial government has announced a lockdown in the province during the Eid holidays.

A week-long lockdown will be imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan district from Monday, authorities have announced.
The decision was made at a meeting held at the Mardan commissioner’s office today.
Pharmacies, petrol stations and grocery stores will be exempted from the restriction, the commissioner said.
Transport will remain suspended and people will not be allowed to leave their homes. Prayers and Taraweeh can be offered in mosques with strict implementation of virus SOPs.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government on Sunday decided that students from grades 1-8 in virus hotspots will remain home until Eid as the country struggled to rein in a surging body count which went as high as 149 the second highest single-day death toll since the pandemic began.
The country also witnessed 6,127 fresh infections, the third time the cases exceeded the 6,000 mark since the outbreak began, according to data retrieved from the National Command and Operation Centre’s (NCOC) website.
The 24 hours leading to Sunday had both the largest increases in cases and deaths of the year. The highest single-day deaths were recorded on June 20, which were 153. June 20 was also the peak of the first wave and saw over 6,800 cases.

A 27-year old married woman was allegedly gang-raped by three people in Kharkai area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan district.
The complainant lodged an FIR with Kharkai police station, stating that she was on her way home in the evening when three men Mehran, Hazrat Ali and Talha stopped her, overpowered covered her with a shawl and took her to a nearby place where they raped her one by one.
The suspects left her and fled when they saw a vehicle approaching. The suspects threw her in a ditch while escaping, leaving her injured.
