PADUCAH â Paducah Public Schools says classes will resume for the Spring Semester on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021. PPS Communications Coordinator Wayne Walden says the first week back, Jan. 4 - 8, the district will continue with an all-virtual schedule for all students. On Monday, Jan. 11, the district says classes will begin in-person instruction using a hybrid schedule, as follows: Monday, Jan. 11 : Blue Day Tuesday, Jan 12: Blue Day Wednesday, Jan. 13: All Virtual Day â This will be an at-home virtual learning day for all students with teachers providing remote instruction. Thursday, Jan. 14: Tornado Day Friday, Jan. 15: Tornado Day The district says it will continue with this hybrid schedule and will make adjustments as needed in keeping with the state s Healthy at School plan. The district says all-virtual learning will continue to be available for students who choose that option. ....
A Kentucky public school superintendent has been suspended for 40 days without pay after an 18-year-old photo of him in blackface was brought to light in October. The Paducah Public School Board said Donald Shively’s time off will be “for the purposes of additional education, training and community involvement,” according to the WPSD-6 notes that all that training, etc., is specifically for “racial equity.” Twenty days of the suspension will occur this year, and the other 20 next year. The school board admitted it had known about the photograph, taken at a 2002 Halloween party, since early last year (Shively brought it to its attention himself) but decided to take no action. ....

Mercy Health donates to schools, community kitchen Unmute PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital is spreading some Christmas cheer with a generous donation. $10,000 in total will go to Paducah Public Schools, McCracken County Public Schools and the Paducah Community Kitchen to combat homelessness among the student population. The school districts will use the money to buy gift cards for families in need and the Paducah Community Kitchen will use the donation to provide hotel rooms for families looking for shelter. Part of our mission is to reach out to the underserved communities and improve health where we can there. This is a small drop in the bucket for doing anything we can to address the problem, said director of Community Health Leigh Ann Ballegeer. ....
